Icona Pop: Icona Pop EP

When you nearly crash your car, swerving too close to a median barrier because you are spontaneously and uncontrollably compelled to dance to music, you know you’re onto something good. That was exactly what happened to me when I first listened to the Icona Pop EP. Hailing from Sweden, Aino Jawo and Caroline Hjelt are the duo that comprise synth-pop band Icona Pop, and their eponymous EP has already found international radio play with the dance track I Love It.

Icona Pop EP is filled with simple, well-structured, addictive electronica gold. While my favourite songs were the dance anthems (I Love It and Ready For the Weekend), the more relaxed tracks like Good For You and Manners are still highly appealing. The only downside are two pointless remixes, but they are easily ignored – they are filler tracks on an otherwise excellent EP. There is a vibrant energy about Icona Pop that makes them utterly irresistible. It also makes me very excited for what they have next in store.
